Be at War with your Vices, at Peace with your Neighbours, and let every New-Year find you a better Man. (Poor Richard’s Almanac)
Citius. Altius. Fortius.
Faster. Higher. Stronger.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step
The Chinese philosopher Laozi (c 604 bc – c 531 bc) famously observed:
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
In June of 2012, I stepped on the scales and was shocked to see that I weighed more than I had ever weighed in my life. I determined then and there that I was going to get myself into shape. And that’s how my journey began. And my journey has been a lot more than just a thousand miles, and it began with a pedal stroke. Starting my journey was pretty easy, actually. I got on my bike. And I started climbing a mountain. I wasn’t using Strava at this point, so I manually input this ride. I was 37 years old, and I was considerably heavier than I am now.
End of the year riding
As the year begins to wrap up, it’s good to try to get in as many miles and feet as possible. I was able to get on my on my bike again tonight, and it was a lot colder than I had expected it to be. After I got through with my ride, I was hoping for some Strava personal records or some accomplishment. But there was nothing. It takes diligence and staying in the saddle to stay on the top of your game.
It’s amazing how quickly your legs can go away from you. But it was good to get out, and there were some beautiful sunsets. This picture turned out very cool. It looks like I’m in the clouds descending on the earth.
